Blossom & Bloom competitions

We run annual competitions for community gardening, Formartine in Bloom and gardening in schools, Formartine Beginning to Blossom.

Bloom & Blossom 2020 - cancelled due to Covid-19

Our Beginning to Blossom competition for schools and the Formartine in Bloom competition 2020 are cancelled due to the Covid-19 emergency.

We received confirmation from Aberdeenshire Council’s Landscape Services team on 6 April that the Council will not be providing bedding plants this year due to the emergency. In addition, at the meeting of the Formartine Area Committee on 28 April Councillors decided to cancel both competitions due to the current emergency.

This decision is regrettable but understandable in the current situation.

Competition funding for 2020

At Formartine Area Committee meeting on 28 April Councillors also decided to retain the funding normally granted to the Formartine Rural Partnership as a contribution towards the costs of running the competitions, in the Formartine Area Budget. The Formartine Area Office (Aberdeenshire Council) will be distributing these funds to Formartine communities through the Tidy Village Scheme this year.

We would like to thank all our communities for the amazing work they are continuing to do during this time and to wish all the groups well.

The competition aims to encourage schools to make the best use of the school grounds for environmental education purposes and improve the appearance of the school grounds. The 2020 competition has been cancelled.
